Mayor Turner Appoints New Boards and Commissions Director

November 15, 2021 -- Mayor Sylvester Turner has selected Shannon Ramirez-Conklin to serve as the Director of Boards and Commissions for the City of Houston.

Boards and Commissions works with Houstonians appointed by Mayor Turner who volunteer their time for the benefit of the community by constructing policy, fundraising, aiding fellow citizens and planning for Houston’s future. The Boards and Commissions director oversees the process of receiving nominations for individuals to serve on City boards and enhances the panels’ collaboration with city departments.

“The City of Houston has made great strides in the past six years by ensuring it has fair representation in its boards and commissions,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “Shannon’s extensive experience with Centerpoint Energy demonstrates her ability to work with some of our City’s largest stakeholders. I am confident that she will be able to continue Boards and Commissions diligent work in identifying and appointing people who represent a city as diverse as Houston.”

For nearly ten years, Ramirez-Conklin served as a financial and derivative accountant for Centerpoint Energy where she facilitated the operational transition of the Fortune 500 company’s trading and risk management system and performed journal entry reconciliation and financial performance reporting for a $1 billion book of derivatives.

Prior to accepting her position with the City of Houston, Ramirez-Conklin served as a Board of Directors Member for the Houston BARC Foundation where she provided direction and support in event planning, sponsor solicitation, capital projects, and succession planning for the foundation.

Ramirez-Conklin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Houston, C.T. Bauer College of Business.

Director Ramirez-Conklin's appointment is effective immediately.
