Mayor's Anti-Gang Office

Office Activities

Mentoring Makes a Difference
MAGO organizes many activities for youth to provide them with learning opportunities and experiences.  The office also coordinates community events to provide families and the public with information and resources.

Summer Youth Film Project
Through a partnership with the Houston Public Library, youth who participate in office programs learned how to develop, film, edit and produced short films.

Summer Youth Program
Each summer youth spend out-of-school time with MAGO counselors and participate in structured activities that include field trips, presentations from guest speakers, community service projects, college tours, and recreational activities.

Community Garden
In partnership with the Parks Department, the Anti-Gang Office operates a community garden at Burnett Bayland Park. The garden contains seasonal fruits, vegetables and flowers and is maintained by the United Minds Youth Leadership Council. We’re looking to expand community participation. If you’d like to volunteer at the garden call the office at 832.393.0931.

Campo del Sol

Through a partnership with the Parks Department and grant funds via the Harris County Community Youth Development, youth that live in the 77081 zip code are able to attend an 8 week summer day camp at Burnett Bayland Park.   Youth participants are placed into groups according to gender and age, and assigned to a Camp Counselor for participation in daily activities. These activities include anti-gang, anti-drug and anti-violence presentations, art projects; conflict resolution skills, environmental science projects, individual and team sports; educational field trips and special events.  For more information call 832.393.0895.
