What BARC Provides

BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions is proud to provide a TNR program.  As part of our program, we loan out humane traps, perform surgeries on feral cats, release cats back to their colonies, and are here for all your questions and concerns about TNR.

Trap Loaning: To borrow a trap from BARC, you must live inside the Houston city limits and have a valid credit card.  You will be required to fill out a Feral Cat Trap Loan Agreement form and a Credit Card Authorization form made out for $50.00.  We will only charge your credit card in the event that you do not return the trap. Traps are loaned out only for the purpose of humanely trapping feral cats. Traps can be borrowed at the following times from the TNR Coordinator at the Foster/Rescue Office: Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday-Saturday between 12pm and 6pm.

Surgeries: Spay and neuter surgeries are performed at BARC on feral cats on Tuesdays through Thursdays.  To schedule surgery, please email barc.aid@houstontx.gov.  When emailing to schedule surgery, please subject email Feral Cat Surgery and provide your first and last name, a contact phone number, the number of feral cats you would like to schedule surgery for (limit is two cats) and the cats’ colors and ages.  For more information on surgeries, please visit the Surgery Information and Policies section.

BARN Cat Program: If you are interested in adopting a BARN Cat, please fill out The Barn Cat Adoption Application (.doc) and email to Barc.Aid@houstontx.gov. Once you have been approved we will let you know and add you to our waiting list. When a barn cat comes into out shelter we will let you know. To adopt a cat you will then have to come and fill out the Adoption Agreement and pick up the cat. If you do not currently have any other barn cats at your facility, we require that you adopt at least two cats. If your BARN is inside the city limits you will be require to license your BARN Cat.

Questions or Concerns: Please contact the TNR Coordinator at 713-229-7377 or barc.aid@houstontx.gov.
