Hi Houston:

We did it! BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions is officially IN the 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The Challenge to save more lives of homeless animals takes place over the months of August, September, and October. BARC will undertake planning efforts right away for mega adoption events and promotions to hopefully win some of the more than $500,000 grant money being awarded by the ASPCA (Grand Prize for most live releases = $100,000). With our toughest and highest intake months ahead, it will not be easy – but we are up the challenge. With the dedication and support of our City and the compassionate dedication of our team, we can accomplish some amazing things! The Challenge is the perfect opportunity to save more lives and showcase what we can do as a municipal shelter and as a community in the 4th largest city in the nation.

To recap the voting period from April 5 – 16h , BARC finished #13 overall out of 104 shelters and #3 in our division behind two great shelters in Arizona. We were the #1 shelter in Texas. For our first year to participate in the Challenge, this is a great accomplishment! Thank you so much for your hard work in “BARCing the vote”. We are very proud of Houston’s support and look forward to the months ahead.
