BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions
Mayor Parker's Pets of the Week: Mitzi and Foxie

October 23, 2012 - BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions announced the Mayor's Pets of the Week with Houston's Mayor Annise Parker today: Rosslyn, an American Foxhound mix dog and Trisha, a Tabby/Domestic Short Hair mix kitten. The photos below can also be viewed on BARC's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

The end of the ASPCA $100K Challenge is only days away, and BARC is dedicating every resource possible to finishing strong in the competition. BARC has found permanent and loving homes for 1,559 dogs and cats since the challenge began on August 1, and staff and volunteers have no plans to slow down. In addition to showcasing two of the many perfect pets with the Mayor's Pets of the Week, BARC has several events planned over the next few days to ensure pet adoptions continue to increase. These events include a Yappy Hour on Thursday, Oct. 25 and a Mega Adoption Event on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Natural Pawz in the Heights, located at 514 West 19th Street, Houston, 77008.

"We are still fully dedicated to meeting our goal of 2,100 dog and cat adoptions by October 31, and we are doing everything we can to get there," said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC. "The $100K Challenge has helped increase our adoptions since last year, and we have every intention to continue that trend even after the competition is over."

Rosslyn and Trisha, the Mayor's BARC Pets of the Week are available for adoption.

Name: Rosslyn
Animal ID: A1098702
Breed: American Foxhound Mix
Age: Approximately 1 Year 6 Months
Size: Medium
More about Rosslyn:  Rosslyn's tall and floppy ears are the first adorable thing you notice when you see her. Her brown, black and white colors are beautiful and one-of-a-kind. She is pretty calm, but her eyes light up when she gets a toy or a treat. Rosslyn is eager to please and learns commands very quickly. She would be a great jogging partner. Rosslyn was taken to BARC as a stray and then lived with a BARC foster pet parent for a couple weeks. Now she is at BARC and ready to go home with her forever family. She loves people and would be a great family dog. She is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.

Name: Trisha
Animal ID: A1087700
Breed: Tabby/ Domestic Short Hair Mix
Age: Approximately 5 Months
More about Trisha: This little kitty is a purring machine! She is very sweet, loves to be held and would be a perfect lap cat. She also loves to play and explore, and enjoys being around other cats. For instance, she has a great time with her kitty companions in the free-roaming room at the shelter. She is mostly gray, but has a few splashes of brown which makes her very unique. This sweet kitty came into BARC as a stray but is now ready to settle into a new home with a new, forever family. She is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.
