Mayor's Back 2 School Fest
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I register my student?
A. Register through this website or call 713.837.0311, the city’s non-emergency line.
Q. Is the event open to the public?
A. Due to a limited number of school supplies, only pre-registered elementary school children (K-5) who reside in the City of Houston are eligible to participate. Students must be registered by Friday, July 21, 2017, or until we reach capacity.
Q. Is there a cost to attend?
A. We are pleased to announce that this is a free event, but again, only families who pre-register will have access to the fair due to limited space and supplies.
Q. Do the children need to be present?
A: They do not; however, we encourage families to bring the students they registered in order to take advantage of free immunizations, dental and visions screenings, and other event offerings.
Q. Can I bring other children that need school supplies to the event?
A. You can; however, only those children who were pre-registered will receive school supplies.
Q. My child needs immunizations. What do I have to bring?
A. To receive immunizations you must bring your student’s current shot records to the event.
Q. Where is event parking located?
A. Parking will be at the Minute Maid Park Lots, B and C – Preston Street and St. Emanuel Street.
Q. When we arrive at the George R. Brown Convention Center, do I have to pay for parking?
A. Parking will be free for the event, courtesy of Minute Maid Park. Please note that parking is only available for the duration of the event.
Q. What do I need to bring to the event?
A. At the Fest, you must present:
- Your event confirmation (a printed copy or electronic version on your mobile device)
- A form of identification for the adult accompanying the child/children at time of check-in
Q. Can event volunteers receive school supplies for their children?
A. Event offerings are available only for registered students and their families attending the Back to School Fest as participants.
Q. What if it rains?
A. The fair will continue as scheduled in the event of rain.
Q. What happens if you run out of school supplies?
A. We have done our homework! Because we are pre-registering students, our event guarantees a backpack filled with school supplies to every pre-registered elementary school child. Thank you to Shell, the George R. Brown Convention Center, and all of the sponsors who generously supported the 2017 Mayor’s Back to School Fest.
