08.18.2005 -- Houston City Council on Wednesday approved an ordinance awarding a new three-year contract, with two one-year options, to Republic Parking Systems for providing parking operations and management services for the Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department.
Republic will provide all personnel, management, supervision, labor, equipment and incidentals to manage and operate parking systems at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Fannin Garage, Houston Center for the Arts, Lots C and H and Houston Police Department parking lot, City Hall Annex, plus the Tranquillity and Civic Center garages that together comprise what is commonly known as the Theater District Parking complex.
Republic was one of five parking operators to submit proposals to the City seeking the contract award. Republic was chosen by an evaluation committee consisting of personnel from various City departments and a local parking consultant.
Theater District Parking is a vital asset that serves Houston's central business district round the clock. Spanning 18 underground blocks and consisting of 3,369 parking spaces, the City-owned facility is convenient for daytime office workers and evening theater-goers alike.
