GEORGE R. BROWN CONVENTION CENTER MARKETING PIECE TAKES FIRST PLACE IN TEXAS COMMUNICATIONS CONTEST

07.06.2005 -- A 12-page marketing brochure developed by the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRBCC) to promote new attractions in downtown Houston has been recognized as the best in Texas as part of a statewide communications contest.

The Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) cited "Houston Downtown: A New Point of View" as the winner in the Special Publications category. The Tami Award was announced last month at TAMIO's annual meeting in Abilene.

In presenting the Tami to the City of Houston's Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, one judge commented, " Wow! What I'd expect to see from the City of Houston. Very polished, very slick." Another panelist remarked, "Concisely written entry. Colorful, useful . Excellent."

The brochure was designed as a supplement inserted into the February 2004 issue of the national trade publication Convene. Two additional press runs were done to meet the demand for internal and external sales collateral pieces.

"Response to this publication has been very gratifying," GRBCC director Dawn Ullrich said. "It serves a niche and underscores the growing interest in downtown Houston."

Communications manager Pete Radowick and marketing manager Anna Hawley developed the collateral piece for the GRBCC in conjunction with Judson Design of Houston.
