NEW CONVENTION DISTRICT PARKING GARAGE OPENS ACROSS FROM GEORGE R. BROWN CONVENTION CENTER
Bridal Extravaganza, Cat Show will be first public events to use facility

01.03.2008 -- The brand-new Convention District Parking garage, capable of accommodating 675 vehicles beneath Discovery Green park in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB), is open for business.

First used to accommodate guests attending the City of Houston inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, the underground garage will be open to the public this weekend for the Bridal Extravaganza and the Houston Cat Show Saturday and Sunday at the GRB. Event parking is $10.

Convention District Parking is owned and operated by the City of Houston Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, which also oversees Theater District Parking and the GRB. The garage was built beneath Discovery Green to replace the two surface lots that were razed to make way for the new park, which is expected to open in April.

"The new Convention District garage is another parking component that will serve the growing needs of the neighborhood surrounding the George R. Brown," said Dawn Ullrich, director of the Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department. "It will serve to supplement the parking inventory already in place, including the garage connected to the GRB and the Hilton Americas hotel, nearby surface lots and curbside meter locations. Downtown visitors are wise to consider all of their parking options."

The physical address of the garage is 1002 Avenida de las Americas, Houston, 77010.
