5 ENSHRINED IN HOUSTON HALL OF FAME AT GEORGE R. BROWN CONVENTION CENTER
08.25.2009 -- Five new inductees have been enshrined in the Houston Hall of Fame exhibit at the George R. Brown Convention Center, bringing the number of members in the shrine to 37.
The Hall of Fame honors those who have achieved excellence in the arts, athletics, business, entertainment, law, medicine and public service. Each inductee was either born in Houston or called Houston home during the time of their greatest achievements.
Honorees of 2009 are gospel singer Yolanda Adams, oilman and philanthropist Jack S. Blanton, the late Will Clayton, one of Houston’s great business titans in the first half of the 20th century, community activist Trinidad Mendenhall Sosa, and banker and civic leader Don Wang.
All five were honored during the annual City of Houston birthday celebration held August 20 in the Bush Grand Ballroom at the GRB. The Hall of Fame exhibit flanks the exterior entrance of the ballroom. Each showcase consists of a photo portrait, bronze plaque and a personal artifact from the honoree.
