The Economic Stimulus Payments must be filed by December 1, 2008. To receive it, you must file a 2007 tax return by December 1st, not by the tax deadline on April 15! Free Tax Preparation Assistance Not required to file a return? Many people with disabilities are eligible to receive money back from the government, including the Economic Stimulus Payment, even if they have no filing requirement. In order to receive money back, and in order to receive the new Economic Stimulus Payment (if eligible), you MUST file a tax return. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers FREE income tax preparation to families that earn less than $40,000 a year!! For free tax preparation, visit a VITA site location near you - but hurry, as most VITA sites close by April 16!
