Public Invited to Provide Input During Spring 2022 Community Public Meetings

The City of Houston’s Housing and Community Development Department (HCDD) is hosting its biannual Spring 2022 Community Public Meetings. The virtual meetings will be held Thursday, March 31 at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, April 6 at 6 p.m.

During the Spring Community Meetings, HCDD staff will present information about the proposed program activities and budget for Program Year 2022 (July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023). The meetings will also include interactive polls, small group discussions, and time for public comment.

“The meetings allow Houstonians an opportunity to share their thoughts on developments and initiatives that matter in their community,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “Houston is a city of diversity and strong partnerships. The people of Houston look out for one another, and there is no one better to help us develop a plan for our community than those who live in our community."

Each year, HCDD receives approximately $45 million in federal entitlement grants to improve Houston’s neighborhoods and the quality of life for low- and moderate-income families.

Grant funds are used to assist families by ensuring there is a supply of affordable homes in the city; by collaborating and providing resources to community partners that offer supportive services such as rental assistance and homes for people experiencing homelessness; and by funding improvements to local parks and community centers, and much more.

These federal grants administered by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), Housing Opportunities for Persons with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).
