Bike Trail Detour and Houston Avenue Lane Closure
During I-45 Construction
February 27, 2016 through Summer 2017
The Heights and White Oak bike trails near White Oak Bayou will be detoured onto a portion of Houston Avenue as soon as Saturday, February 27, 2016 through the Summer 2017 during the TxDOT construction of the I-45 northbound bridge at White Oak Bayou.
TxDOT is in the process of replacing the I-45 northbound bridge at White Oak Bayou, constructing a new connector bridge at White Oak Bayou as well as replacing the bridge deck and other miscellaneous work on I-45 from Memorial Drive to I-10.
The detour along Houston Avenue will be within the west side of the southbound lane between Spring Street and White Oak Drive. The lane will be closed to vehicles for safety of the two-way, separated bicycle facility for the duration of the project providing a trail-like connection between the Heights and White Oak bike trails which will be closed and reopened intermittently during TxDOT construction.
This $19.6 million bridge replacement project began in December 2015 and is anticipated to continue through October 2017. Coordination for this project is an effort of TxDOT, METRO and other area partners.
