Notification of Capital Improvement Plan Construction Project in Richmond / Wheeler Streets area

In order to keep pace with the growing needs of the community, the City of Houston through the Department of Public Works and Engineering will be improving the water lines in the area described below. The contractor for this project is Huff & Mitchell , Inc. and work will start on 08/20/2008 and is scheduled to end on 08/19/2010 . You may not see any activity by the contractor for several weeks after the construction time has begun. This is due to the contractor getting prepared to perform work which includes procurement of materials and equipment, setting up staging areas or working in other areas in the project.

A detailed description and contact information is listed below.

This project consists of the following:

  • 36-inch interconnection between 60-inch and 36-inch water lines inside the Southwest Pump Station (SWPS)
  • Installation of 66-inch Butterfly Valve, approximately 100 linear feet of 24-inch water line, and installation of 24-inch check valve, associated fittings and appurtenances at the Richmond/Hazard St. intersection
  • Construction of approximately 3,300 linear feet of 36-inch water line by open-cut and tunnel along Rosedale Circle, Dowling and Barbee, with associated connections to existing 66-inch and 30-inch water lines, valves, fittings and appurtenances
  • Repairs to existing cathodic protection system connections at three separate locations on Richmond Ave.
  • Installation of approximately 580 linear feet of 8-inch water line in easement between Westpark and US-59
  • Provide support for condition assessment inspections of the existing 66-inch water transmission line along Richmond and Wheeler
  • Installation of approximately 24,000 linear feet of acoustically sensitive fiber optic cable (AFO) on the interior of the 66-inch water line along Wheeler, Richmond and Westpark.

The contractor is required to provide residents written notification, via door hangers, 72 hours prior to construction beginning on your street. Periodic updates of the construction schedule will be sent out using CitizensNet.
