Mayor Bill White Announces New Consumer Web Site to Help Consumers Make Health Insurance Choices

Mayor Bill White today announced the launch of a new web site, , designed to help consumers make informed choices about purchasing health insurance coverage.

"Too many families and small businesses in Houston are without any coverage and we want to help people know more easily what options are out there for them," said Mayor White. "It's a consumer-friendly, unbiased source of information that isn't in the business of selling insurance."

The new web site will serve as a clearinghouse for information about policies available and price ranges. Only policies offered by B+ or higher rated companies are included in the site.

Once on the site, consumers can walk through a simple menu of choices for individuals, families or small businesses and get information about options and price ranges. For convenience, links are provided to the sites of companies offering policies.

More than 1 million people in Houston are without health coverage, and most of them are employed full time. Only one-third of Houston's small businesses offer health insurance to their employees.
