Government Procurement Connections 2008
"Moving from Contacts to Contracts"

Small businesses and individuals interested in learning how to do business with the federal, state, county, and city governments should plan to attend Government Procurement Connections 2008 (GPC 2008). This year's intergovernmental, contracting fair will be held on Monday, March 24th and Tuesday, March 25th at the George R. Brown Convention Center (Exhibit Hall D), 1001 Avenida de las Americas.

By attending GPC 2008, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • network with government and business professionals;
  • learn how to do business with the government;
  • present their businesses to government agencies, prime contractors, and other businesses;
  • attend a variety of workshops; and
  • meet decision makers in face-to-face sessions.

The theme for GPC 2008 is "Moving from Contacts to Contracts". The event is the result of the efforts of numerous governmental and business entities including: the City of Houston, Houston Community College, the Port of Houston Authority, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the State of Texas, the United Space Alliance, the Houston Minority Business Council, the Women Business Enterprise Alliance, Harris County, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Houston Federal Executive Board, the Houston Minority Business Enterprise Center, local chambers of commerce, as well as other small/minority business advocates in the Houston and surrounding area.

GPC 2008's scheduled events promise to provide a tremendous amount of networking and educational opportunities for the participants. On Monday, March 24th, there will be several industry specific forums in the areas of Construction; Architecture/Engineering; IT/Communications; METRO and METRO Solutions; and NASA; as well as the Greater Houston Contract Financing Forum.

Tuesday, March 25th will feature over 130 exhibitor booths, face-to-face sessions, workshops and an awards luncheon. The year's luncheon speaker will be Lt. General Russel Honore, who served as the Commander of the Joint Task Force - Katrina. In that capacity, he directed the military's response to the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
