Mayor Sylvester Turner extends Hire Houston Youth applications to Friday, March 23!

Youth can apply online now until March 23 at www.hirehoustonyouth.org.

Hire Houston Youth provides summer internships and jobs to youth ages 16 to 24. Youth are employed for a minimum of 7 weeks and earn at least $8 an hour. The program provided over 5,000 summer job and internship opportunities to local youth last summer, and this year, the goal is 7,500.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, less than a third of American teenagers held a job in the summer of 2016, and their participation in the workforce is at a historic low. At the same time, 40-50 percent of large US employers report they cannot fill entry-level positions.

Employers can still partner with Mayor Turner's Hire Houston Youth initiative by signing up online at www.hirehoustonyouth.org by March 21. If an employer cannot hire directly, it can provide a youth with an opportunity at a local nonprofit organization with a tax-deductible pledge of $2,500. For any questions on how to partner, please contact Emma Oliver at emma.oliver@houstontx.gov.
