Dear Houston Hope Community Residents,

Houston Hope is Mayor Bill White's initiative to reinvest in several of Houston 's older neighborhoods, including your community. We wanted to let you know more about the project and what it means for you and your neighbors. The goal of Houston Hope is to build strong neighborhoods that meet the needs of their current residents and that are attractive to new and returning families. The City of Houston is accomplishing this by providing affordable housing and improving infrastructure and drainage.

To date, the City of Houston has invested more than an estimated $16 million in waterline replacement, wastewater rehabilitation, storm sewer laterals and sidewalks in the Hope neighborhoods. These improvements help revitalize your community.

Presently, the Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority (LARA) has purchased 706 properties with 96 of those under contract with builders to break ground and to begin building affordable housing for the residents of Houston .

As a participant of the Houston Hope initiative, potential buyers may qualify to receive up to $30,000 in down payment assistance which will bring monthly payments down to a level where many working families now renting can instead build equity in their homes. If you or someone you know is interested in buying an affordable home through this program, call 713-522-HOME (4663) to learn more. If you are interested in the available lots, please visit the Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority web link at: http://www.houstontx.gov/lara/index.html.

Along with the financial assistance, the Houston Police Department Neighborhood Protection Corps has been facilitating initiatives to promote quality of life issues within the Houston Hope targeted neighborhoods. HPD is increasing enforcement aimed at illegal dumping on vacant lots and street crimes, so residents feel safe and proud about their community.

We will keep you informed as other progress is made. Meanwhile, you can find out more about Houston Hope at www.houstontx.gov/lara/index.html.
