Invite you to the
Inaugural Houston Human Rights Day Festival
This year, Houston is joining cities around the globe in celebrating Human Rights Day, which commemorates the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Activities kickoff at 1 pm on Saturday December 5, at Discovery Green, with a welcome from elected officials. The three-hour event will feature remarks from noted Houstonians and entertainment representing cultures from around the world.
The Honorable Chaja Verveer, Dr. Bill Flores, Angela Blanchard, and Dr. Stephen Klineberg will offer their thoughts on human rights, and Council Member Robert Gallegos will present the Houston Human Rights Award. Huyen Quang Lion Dance Team, HCC Central Dance Ensemble, Strictly Street Salsa, and Ambassadors International Ballet Folkorico will entertain the crowd between speakers.
In addition, community partners representing a wide-range of ideas and services will be on hand to share what they do to assist Houston residents. There will also be activities for children.
The event is being hosted by the Department of Neighborhoods, Rice University, IEDA Relief, Youth for Human Rights USA, and the offices of Council Members Richard Nguyen and Robert Gallegos.
