The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department and Council Member Mike Sullivan are hosting a Mobile BOPA (Batteries, Oil, Latex Paint and Antifreeze) collection on Saturday, April 28, 2012, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Metro Park and Ride located at 3210 W. Lake Houston Parkway, Houston 77339.
All residents disposing of material must present a driver's license and water bill as proof of City of Houston residency.
Only the following items WILL be accepted:
Rechargeable batteries, used motor and cooking oil (5 gal limit/each), latex paint (10 gal limit), antifreeze (5 gal limit), scrap metal and large appliances (with freon removed), such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.
On-site document shredding will also be available.
The following Items WILL NOT be accepted:
Tires, household hazardous waste, chemicals, business, medical or radioactive waste, PCBs, Dioxins, ammunition, explosives, compressed gas cylinders, smoke detectors and household trash.
Electronics WILL NOT be accepted. The next electronics collection is Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Tips for transporting BOPA materials:
Be sure all containers are sealed and in original packing. Leaking or open containers will not be accepted. Pack containers upright in a box and pack newspaper around the container(s) to prevent breakage. To avoid fumes, always transport the materials in the trunk.
