Crime Stoppers Campaign to Prevent Illegal Dumping

On Monday, February 23rd at 10:30 a.m. on the steps of Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby, there will be a news conference to announce the Crime Stoppers Campaign to Prevent Illegal Dumping. Please join us in demonstrating the seriousness of this crime and your commitment to stop the illegal dumping that blights your neighborhoods.

Houston HOPE is a City of Houston initiative to reinvest in some of Houston's historic neighborhoods by improving the infrastructure and creating opportunities for new housing development. City departments are working in concert to make the dream of homeownership a reality, working everyday to address the issues that plague these neighborhoods. One such issue is blight caused by the crime of illegal commercial and residential dumping. Neighborhood Protection has cleaned up an estimated 1,200 tons of trash (2090 cubic yards) from illegal dumping in Houston HOPE neighborhoods in 2008 alone; which is equivalent to filling up 300 full size pick up trucks.

We need your help to catch the culprits that treat our historic neighborhoods as trashcans without regard for appearance, public health, and safety. To this end, Houston HOPE has teamed up with Crime Stoppers to give rewards of up to $5,000 to individuals who help catch illegal dumpers in Houston HOPE neighborhoods.

For additional information on the news conference please contact Andrea Young Jones at 832-393-0975 or email her at andrea.jones@cityofhouston.net.  We hope to see you there.
