ReBuild Houston Project Completed in Your Neighborhood
Bretshire Detention Basin Project

The Bretshire Detention Basin Project consisted of the construction of a storm water detention basin. The project will provide permanent detention volume along Halls Bayou for the City of Houston and Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD). The land and engineering was provided by HCFCD and the City of Houston constructed the basin. HCFCD will maintain the basin.

This detention basin project consisted of clearing approximately 40 acres, as well as the excavation and off-site disposal of approximately 825,210 cubic yards of soil. The project also included demolition and removal of all abandoned underground utilities within the perimeter of the proposed basin. The $4.71M improvement project was complete in early December 2012.

The ReBuild Houston Initiative is the City of Houston's voter approved pay-as-you-go plan to rebuild drainage and street infrastructure. Its goal is to improve the quality of life and mobility for residents through the reconstruction and proper maintenance of drainage and street improvements. This Bretshire Detention Basin Project is an active example of ReBuild Houston at work to better serve you.
