ReelAbilities: Houston Disabilities Film Festival 2013
Films Celebrate the Real Abilities and Triumphs of Persons with Disabilities
February 6 - February 13, 2013

Houstonians are invited to ReelAbilities: Houston Disabilities Film Festival 2013, a citywide event promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of individuals with disabilities. "ReelAbilities" will feature award-winning films, talks and art exhibits at community venues throughout the city, Wednesday, February 6 - Wednesday, February 13, 2013. www.Houston.ReelAbilities.org

Houston Mayor Annise Parker will join festival host Jewish Family Service and its Alexander Institute for Inclusion, lead sponsor TIRR Memorial Hermann, the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) and other corporate and community partners to kickoff the festival on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, 6 p.m., Asia Society Texas Center, 1370 Southmore Boulevard, Houston 77004. The evening's film feature will be "Ocean Heaven."

The festival will feature 15 films in 7 languages and will include talks and presentations by special guests, including individuals involved in the production of the films and noted experts in the field of disabilities. Admission varies by location and tickets are available online. To purchase tickets by phone, contact the screening venue directly. Opening night admission is $25 - $100. Admission for other film screenings is nominal, ranging from free to $10.

Exhibits of works by artists, students and adults with disabilities will be on view at One Allen Center (through Friday, February 15), 500 Dallas Street, Houston 77002, Houston Public Library Central Library, (through Thursday, February 28), 500 McKinney Street, Houston 77002, and the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center (through Friday, February 15), 5601 South Braeswood Boulevard, Houston 77096.
