December 6, 2012 Stanaker Neighborhood Library Reopening Celebration The City of Houston and the Houston Public Library recently reopened the Stanaker Neighborhood Library after a major renovation. Mayor Annise Parker, City Council Member James Rodriguez and Houston Public Library Director Dr. Rhea Brown Lawson led a Reopening Celebration for the community. Once they step inside, customers will note that all the spaces within the library radiate off of the entry area and new information desk. The library includes specific areas designated for children, teens, and adults. The library also includes a large meeting room, training room, gaming area, common computer area, and an adult living room. Of particular interest for everyone will be the computer chairs. Called the "111 Navy Chair," each one is made from 111 recycled Coke bottles. The building has been made more energy efficient with a new mechanical system, light fixtures, increased insulation, and a cool roof. In addition, the interior features of rubber flooring, accents of color and maple wood throughout the facility, and an upgraded ceiling to buffer the sound levels. Library Hours
