Union Pacific Railroad rallies communities to attend the
2015 Neighborhoods USA (NUSA) Conference

In its ongoing effort to spread the word on rail safety, Union Pacific Railroad is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the upcoming Neighborhoods, USA Annual Conference to be held May 20-23 in Houston.

"Our company supports NUSA's mission of sharing information and experiences that build stronger communities," said Brenda Mainwaring, Union Pacific's vice president of public affairs. "We believe that having conference attendees bring our rail safety message back to their neighborhood associations will effectively drive the message home and ultimately save lives." At the conference, Union Pacific will be offering a workshop entitled "Keeping communities safe around railroad operations." The workshop will be Thursday, May 21 at 10:15 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency.

UnionPacificCares.com is an online resource offering useful rail safety information, including posters, flyers and other materials available for printing and downloading. This resource is available to all neighborhood association representatives to share with their members.

Most people underestimate the speed of a train and don't realize it can take up to a mile for a train traveling 55 miles per hour to come to a complete stop. Trying to drive across a rail crossing when the gates are coming down or a train is approaching is never a good idea. In addition, many pedestrians use railroad tracks as a shortcut, which is not only illegal, but also very dangerous.

Union Pacific Railroad is America's premier railroad franchise, covering 23 states across the Western United States and operating in more than 7,300 communities.  The company serves many of the country's fastest-growing population centers, delivering the raw and finished goods that support American's daily lives. Ensuring the safety of its employees, communities and customers is Union Pacific's No. 1 priority.

Neighborhoods USA (NUSA) is a non-profit group focused on building stronger communities by providing learning, information sharing and networking opportunities for its members. The organization is also known for recognizing outstanding communities and individuals dedicated to improving neighborhood quality of life.

Conference registration runs through May 1. To see more about the conference and register, go to https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07eavegbjzd716cdec&llr=hkkzhkeab. More information about NUSA can be found at www.nusa.org. Please contact us at 832-393-6637, if you have any questions.

Conference sponsors in addition to the presenting sponsor, Union Pacific Railroad, include Citgo; Neighborhood Centers, Inc.; LISC; APA Texas Chapter; Houston City Tours and the City of Houston.
