March 28, 2007 Dear Citizens, In June 2006, the City of Houston embarked on a major initiative, Urban Corridor Planning. This initiative will change how the City regulates development and designs its streets and other infrastructure in order to create a high quality urban environment in areas along METRO's light rail and guided rapid transit corridors: Main Street, Uptown, East End, North, Southeast and University . The Phase I workshop was held in August 2006 and was attended by over 300 participants. Results from Phase I and additional information is available on the project website at www.houstontx.gov/planning/urban_cor.html. Continued public input is critical to the success of Phases II & III. By participating in upcoming workshops, you will be shaping the future of your community and helping to develop plans and policies addressing mobility, public spaces, urban design and implementation strategies. A kick-off workshop for all six corridors will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 . Community workshops in five corridors will be held from mid-April to early May, with the University Corridor workshop to be held after METRO has selected the final alignment. Results from these workshops will be presented for review and discussion on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 – all six corridor stakeholders are welcome to attend. SAVE THESE DATES!
