The Department of Neighborhoods, the Houston Bar Association (HBA) Elder Law Committee, and Houston Volunteer Lawyers (HVL) announce the 2019 Will-A-Thon, designed to prepare estate planning documents for pre-approved eligible Houstonians free of charge. Estate planning documents include simple wills, medical powers of attorney, HIPAA releases, declarations of a guardian, living wills, and durable powers of attorney.

Persons interested in receiving these services must complete a screening interview by phone at 713.228.0735 by March 28, 2019. Low-income individuals, persons over 60 years of age, people with disabilities and military veterans are eligible to apply for the services.

The Will-A-Thon will consist of two wills clinics scheduled for April 3 and May 1 at the Tidwell Community Center, 9720 Spaulding Street, Houston, TX 77016. Approved clients must attend both clinics at appointed times, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The clinics will be staffed by HVL, the service arm of HBA. At the first clinic, volunteer lawyers will confer with clients to assess their needs and determine what documents and information will be required. At the second clinic, wills and other documents will be executed and notarized.

The Will-A-Thon is an annual project of HBA’s Elder Law Committee and HVL, sponsored in partnership with the Department of Neighborhoods and Complete Communities. For more information, call 832.393.0832.
