Dear Houston Hope Community Residents,

We are proud to bring you the June/July 2007 monthly update on Houston Hope. Houston Hope is Mayor Bill White's initiative to reinvest in several of Houston 's older neighborhoods by providing affordable housing and improving infrastructure and drainage. As a participant of the Houston Hope initiative, potential buyers may qualify to receive up to $30,000 in down payment assistance.

Currently, the Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority (LARA) has purchased 706 properties. For a breakdown of properties, sold, under contract with builders, to breaking ground and available, please see the listing for each individual neighborhood.

The City of Houston is also partnering with Urban Harvest, Inc. to bring a community garden in the Houston Hope Neighborhoods of Acres Homes and Fifth Ward

FIFTH WARD

Historical fact: The area is home to the second largest port in the U.S. and one of the ten busiest in the world. It generates almost $11 billion annually to the state and national economies and affects more than 287,000 direct and indirect jobs.

LARA has purchased 73 properties in Fifth Ward. Of these properties:

Pedraza Construction has begun building on Lucille and is expected to have homes completed by September 2007.
