Dear Fifth Ward Residents:

As of May 2008, Houston Hope has made it possible for 62 families to be able to buy quality affordable homes in re-energized areas of the city.  Houston Hope is Mayor Bill White's initiative to reinvest in several of Houston 's historic neighborhoods through a combination of stabilizing activities such as coordination of public safety programs, rehabbing existing homes, providing quality new affordable homes, and improving infrastructure and drainage. As participants of the Houston Hope initiative, qualified buyers in the targeted areas may receive up to $30,000 in down payment assistance.

GREAT NEWS

Pedraza Construction has begun construction of 13 affordable houses, with 11 of these under contract with qualified buyers and 2 already moved in.

Currently, the Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority (LARA) has purchased 926 properties citywide, with 77 of these in the Fifth Ward area, where 7 families are already in their new homes or will be moving in shortly.

Success Story

Mr. Kenneth Sanders, a HISD teacher, wanted a better way of living for his wife and son. However, all of the new homes he looked at were out in the county and the prices were out of his range. Through Houston Hope, he was not only able to afford a new house, but he and his family are proud residents of the school district he teaches in!
