Dear Near Northside Community Residents: As of April 2008, Houston Hope has made it possible for 62 families to be able to buy quality affordable homes in re-energized areas of the city. Houston Hope is Mayor Bill White's initiative to reinvest in several of Houston 's historic neighborhoods through a combination of stabilizing activities such as coordination of public safety programs, rehabbing existing homes, providing quality new affordable homes, and improving infrastructure and drainage. As participants of the Houston Hope initiative, qualified buyers in the targeted areas may receive up to $30,000 in down payment assistance. Currently, the Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority (LARA) has acquired 895 properties citywide. Free Homebuyer Education Workshops provided by Avenue CDC Classes in English on the following Saturdays from 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. * April 19 and 26 *May 3, 17 and 24 *June 7, 21, and 28 Classes in Spanish on the following Saturdays from 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. * April 12 *May 10 * June 14 *July 19 Location : Washington Courtyard Apartments, Community Room 2505 Washington Avenue, Houston, TX 77007 Seminar topics : Understanding the home purchase process and obtaining grants to buy a house.
