Dear Houston Hope Community Residents,
We are proud to bring you the June/July 2007 monthly update on Houston Hope. Houston Hope is Mayor Bill White's initiative to reinvest in several of Houston 's older neighborhoods by providing affordable housing and improving infrastructure and drainage. As a participant of the Houston Hope initiative, potential buyers may qualify to receive up to $30,000 in down payment assistance.
Currently, the Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority (LARA) has purchased 706 properties. For a breakdown of properties, sold, under contract with builders, to breaking ground and available, please see the listing for each individual neighborhood.
The City of Houston is also partnering with Urban Harvest, Inc. to bring a community garden in the Houston Hope Neighborhoods of Acres Homes and Fifth Ward
Historical fact: Sunnyside is the oldest African American community in south central Houston . Originally developed to provide homes outside the city, Sunnyside is now inside the city limits and close enough for residents to commute.
LARA has purchased 117 properties in Sunnyside.

Sunnyside Community News:
Holmes CDC will partner with both Seka Investments, Inc. and Oliver Builders to begin construction of affordable homes in the targeted area through the Sunnyside Community. MACSC Housing, Inc. has also signed on with the Houston Hope initiative to build affordable homes on Coffee St . While Guiding Light CDC, a citywide Community Development Corporation, is developing a brochure that describes the homes to be purchased by buyers with builder Burghli Homes.
