ACORN HELP Hotline (1-888-409-3557)
All counselors at the ACORN HELP national hotline are certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide foreclosure counseling. Homeowners may access the agency by visiting ACORN's offices at 2600 South Loop West, Suite 270 , Houston , TX ; by calling the hotline or visiting the agency's Web site at www.acornhousing.org . Callers need to click on the “Behind on Your Mortgage” link at the top of the Web page to access forms and other assistance. ACORN serves as an intermediary between the homeowner and the bank, negotiating a restructuring of the mortgage with a fixed interest rate in the 6% range. ACORN will request that the payment schedule be extended and any outstanding payments be added to the end of the new schedule. The hotline number is 1-888-409-3557 . The service is free.
Gulf Coast Community Services (713-393-4700)
Gulf Coast Community Services Counselors are certified by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development. There are three counselors dedicated to housing/mortgage foreclosure counseling. The counselors serve as facilitators between the mortgage companies and the homeowner. The number to call to make an appointment with a counselor is 713-393-4700 . The service is free. The Homeownership Preservation Foundation HOPE Hotline (1-888-995-4673)
The HOPE hotline is a national hotline that is sponsored locally by the Houston Area Urban League. The counselors are certified through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and are available to suggest options to callers and will ultimately serve as a facilitator between the mortgage company and homeowner. Because this is a national hotline all of the counseling is done by phone. There are no opportunities for face-to-face appointments with the counselors. The hotline number is 1-888-995-4673 .
