June 10, 2011 -- The City’s 2010 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), published by the Controller’s Office, has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The 275-page CAFR is the definitive review of the year’s expenses and revenues. The Controller’s Office collects the data from the City’s Finance Department and other departments following the end of the Fiscal Year. The CAFR is also independently reviewed by Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Additionally, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was awarded to City Controller Ronald C. Green, the person primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning 2010 CAFR.

“I am especially pleased that we issued the CAFR in such a timely manner, in late-November, just five months after the end of the Fiscal Year,” said Controller Green. “I commend everyone involved, especially our Financial Reporting Division.”

The 2010 Certificate of Achievement by GFOA is the 14th consecutive award the City has received for its annual financial report.

GFOA is a national nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals in the U.S. and Canada.
