(Houston, Texas) The Office of the City Controller
for the City of Houston is proud to announce that
its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)
has received another award from the Government
Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
This is the sixth consecutive year the GFOA has
presented its prestigious Certificate of Achievement
to the Office of the City Controller. The national
award recognizes conformance with the highest
standards for the preparation of state and local
government financial reports.
"This is a labor intensive project, because the
report has to meet certain criteria from the GFOA
in order to be considered," said City Controller
Judy Gray Johnson. "In order to receive this award,
a government unit must publish an easily readable
and efficiently organized comprehensive annual
financial report, and our staff has once again
gone above-and-beyond putting this report together,"
said Johnson.
The award is for the fiscal year which ended
June 30, 2002. This is the first report published
using the new reporting model mandated by Government
Accounting Standards Board statement number 34,
which significantly expanded the financial reporting
requirements for local governments. It is published
to provide the Mayor and City Council, along with
the City staff, our citizens, bondholders, and
other interested parties with detailed information
concerning the financial condition and activities
of the City government.
