City Controller Announces Support for the New
Arena Referendum
Houston, Texas-- Houston City Controller Sylvia R.
Garcia today announced that she would support the
referendum for the new sports arena. The Controller,
The City's second highest elected city official, advised
that she had made her dicision after a carefull review
of the proposal.
Joining Controller Garcia as she made her announcement
was Dr. Kenneth Lay of Enron Corporation. Dr. Lay
serves as co-chair to the arena referendum effort
along with Don Jordan of Reliant Energy. Business
leaders have expressed strong support for the arena
proposal.
The new arena is a good deal for Houston, not just
for sports fans but for all Houstonians," said Controller
Garcia. "Let's bring Houston into the twentieth century.
This arena is a vital addition to the revitalization
of Downtown and the surrounding areas."
The referendum is on the November 7th ballot.
