City Controller Sylvia R. Garcia, Chief Deputy Controller Judy Gray Johnson and other members of the Office of the City Controller will cut the first City of Houston check for the new millennium during Y2K test runs of the Controller's systems on Saturday, January 1, 2000. The Controller and Chief Deputy Controller will be available to meet the meida at 11 a.m. ont eh sixth floor of City Hall, 901 Bagby Street for those interested in observing the systems tests and the check cutting.

Controller Garcia expresses confidence in her office's Y2K preparations. "We have engaged in extensive reviews of our systems, upgrading as necessary, since I first came into office," she said. "I am confident that we have made every possible effort to become compliant. By testing our systems on Saturday, we hope to be able to make any adjustments, if necessary, before the work week resumes on Monday."
