Toni Lawrence, a native Houstonian, was elected to Houston City Council District A in November 2003.

Toni has been an avid volunteer in the Houston community for neighborhoods throughout Houston, including volunteer efforts in a former City Councilmember's office. She volunteers her service with Olympics 2012, to the Houston Police Department through Positive Interaction Programs (PIP) and Differential Response Team (DRT) activities continually looking for ways to empower businesses, neighborhoods and schools with law enforcement by improving constituent's quality of life.

In 1998, she labored with Houston Habitat for Humanity toward their successful goal of building 100 homes in one week. She has helped serve Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners at the George R. Brown Convention Center for several years.

Growing up in District A, Toni attended Garden Oaks Elementary, Black Junior High and Waltrip High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin. After spending seven years as a teacher in Austin and Albuquerque, New Mexico, Toni returned to Houston and simultaneously taught at Cy-Fair High School and went to Sam Houston State University where she received her Masters of Education.

In addition to her experience in promoting the interests of the community, Toni has the hands-on business expertise needed to help run Houston like a business. Since 1983, Toni has been a co-owner of Craftsman Fabricated Glass, Inc. which was recognized as 19th of the top 50 family-owned businesses by the Houston Business Journal in 2000.

Toni and Bob, her husband, have one son, Phillip and daughter in law, Reschele, both graduates of  Texas A&M University. Toni and Bob are proud grandparents also. Toni is an active member of First Baptist Church.
