District D Council Member Dwight Boykins Speaks Out On Proposed School Closing
February 7, 2014 -- The Houston Independent School District is proposing to shut the doors of Jesse H. Jones High School and re-zone hundreds of students to either Worthing or Sterling High School, due to significant under-enrollment.
“When you shut down schools, you close communities.” Council Member Dwight Boykins said “It is vital that we have community input as the HISD Board of Trustees makes a decision of this nature.”
Council Member Boykins serves as a voice for the community and therefore, supports residents and families as they provide critical input on this matter, as HISD makes their ruling on the future of Jones High School.
Jesse H. Jones High School was founded over 50 years ago and provides a vast amount of history to the community. The historic high school is a pillar in the neighborhood and assisted in the upbringing of many notable individuals in the City of Houston. Many members of Council Member Boykins’ family attended Jesse H. Jones High School.
Join us for the upcoming community meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Jones High School, 7414 Saint Lo Road.
