Governor Perry acknowledged and presented HPD Officer Rick Salter the Star of Texas Award during a press conference October 21st attended by fellow narcotics officers, police commanders and the Salter family. He was given the award for his bravery when he was shot in the line of duty, paralyzing him in his leg and arm. Council Member Sullivan attended the press conference to show his unwavering support for Officer Salter and the rest of the Houston Police Department who risk their lives everyday.
