ROUND-UP CLEARS THOUSANDS OF MUNICIPAL COURT WARRANTS
February 29, 2008 -- In answer to the 2008 Great Texas Warrant Round-Up, defendants responded by the thousands in order to avoid the possibility of arrest. As a result, the City of Houston's Municipal Courts cleared more than 36,000 outstanding warrants.
City of Houston Municipal Court statistics for the 2008 Round-Up are as follows:
Fines Paid
Warrants Cleared
TRAFFIC/non-TRAFFIC
$2,577,337.40
36,050
Although the Round-Up initiative officially ended February 24, 2008, delinquent ticket holders can still be arrested if they have active warrants pending against them.
"We hope Houstonians will take advantage of the many avenues available to settle outstanding warrants to avoid being arrested and we are here to help them through this process", said Sahira Abdool, the Director and Chief Clerk of Municipal Courts Administration.
