March 2, 2007 -- The City of Houston Municipal Courts has approved the distribution of Spanish language information packets by Houston Police Department officers to individuals who receive citations and require ticket and court information in Spanish.
The initial distribution will be piloted at Eastside, Central, Fondren and Traffic divisions for thirty days beginning March 5, 2007, with the goal of citywide implementation by May of this year.
"With Houston's growing Latino population, it is important that the law is able to be understood in multiple languages. We want every person who receives a citation to comply with the Municipal Court requirements. This is a pilot initiative and the results will be measured to determine whether to expand the effort," stated Council Member Adrian Garcia.

The packet will have instructions in Spanish on paying fines, requesting the Driver Safety Course, Deferred Adjudication, requesting a trial as well as other important information.
2 marzo 2007 -- Las Cortes Municipales de la Ciudad de Houston han aprobado la distribución de un paquete de información en español por medio del Departamento de Policía de la Ciudad de Houston, para individuos que reciben infracciones y necesitan información en español sobre la infracción y el proceso de las cortes.
La distribución inicial de este paquete de información será iniciada en los distritos de Eastside, Central, Fondren y Trafico por treinta días, comenzando el lunes 5 de marzo, 2007,con la meta de una distribución completa para mayo de este año.
"Con la población latina de Houston creciendo, es importante que la ley sea entendida en varios idiomas. Queremos que cada persona que reciba una citación, cumpla con los requisitos de Las Cortes Municipales. Esta es una iniciativa piloto y los resultados serán tenidos en cuenta para determinar si será extendido," indicó Consejal Adrian Garcia, del Distrito H.
