Mayor Sylvester Turner urges residents to do their part and follow health guidelines. If you are somewhere and you cannot both wear a mask and engage in social distancing, then you need to leave.

The COVID-19 virus is out of control in Houston and what we do today and over the next few weeks is critical to get the virus back under control.

I’ve proclaimed August “Better Together” month in the City of Houston. During the month of August we need to work with the Houston Health Department to lower the COVID-19 case positivity rate to below 5%.

Harris County COVID-19 threat remains at Level 1 - Severe until further notice. The virus is spreading rapidly across Houston and Harris County causing local hospitals to reach capacity. All Houstonians should take note.

I’m asking all Houstonians to Mask UP! Wearing a mask protects your family, friends and your coworkers. Our goal is to achieve 90% or more compliance in wearing masks. Make sure the mask covers your nose and mouth otherwise it is not as effective.

This virus will continue to spread uncontrollably in our community if we do not take drastic steps. We can regain control of the virus simply by wearing a mask, washing hands, and maintaining physical distancing.
