Please note, this is not the Fire Trainee Academy.
If interested in becoming a Houston firefighter, please see the HFD Fire Trainee Employment Website by clicking here.
The Houston Fire Department Citizen's Fire Academy is designed to increase understanding of fire and emergency medical operations and to promote citizen interaction with Houston Fire Department firefighters and paramedics. The program is designed to enhance awareness of the department's capabilities and limitations; develop realistic expectations of response times from the point of dispatch; and to develop a cooperative relationship between firefighters and the citizens of Houston.
The twelve-week course will provide participants with an overview of the major units within the department as well as a general overview of firefighting and emergency medical services. It will provide a forum for firefighter-citizen exchange and dialogue.
Participants are encouraged to share their experiences to heighten the level of learning while in the Academy and are expected and encouraged to fully participate in the training.
Experienced fire and emergency medical personnel will teach the Citizen's Fire Academy curriculum. Participants will also experience firsthand what firefighters and paramedics do during a tour of duty.
Once you graduate from the CFA, you may have the opportunity to join the Citizens' Fire Academy Alumni Association. For more information about the HFD CFAAA, please visit their official website at www.hfdcfaaa.org
