History - Firehouse 27 was already on the drawing board when World War II broke out and was completed at the corner of Lyons and Kress Streets. in 1941 in the Denver Harbor addition of Houston, Texas. A ground braking for a new, larger station 27, took place in November 2002 at 6515 Lyons Avenue, just east of the original building. Funded mostly by a Community Development Block Grant, the new station opened in May of 2004.
