Fire Station 46 was opened in 1956, replacing the Old Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department at the corner of Corinth and Stassen.In 1976 a new station was built at the corner of Corder and Scott.

On Feb. 19, 2006, firefighters dedicated a memorial at the station in celebration of Captain Grady Burke who died in the line of duty on Feb. 19, 2005 and was assigned to Fire Station 46.
