History - Brooks #5 was located in the Fifth Ward and was organized in 1874. It was located at Liberty and McKee Streets. Brooks #5 was the first station in which the men fixed crock jugs loaded with chemicals and put them on a home made wagon. They became known as the “soda fountain” station. (Station #5 was at Hardy and Nance in 1895, rebuilt on the same location in 1932 and relocated to Hollister and Hammerly in 1977.)
