History - Brooks #5 was located in the Fifth Ward and was organized in 1874. It was located at Liberty and McKee Streets. Brooks #5 was the first station in which the men fixed crock jugs loaded with chemicals and put them on a home made wagon. They became known as the "soda fountain" station. (Station #5 was at Hardy and Nance in 1895, rebuilt on the same location in 1932 and relocated to Hollister and Hammerly in 1977.) Projected major renovation of this station is tentatively set for Fiscal Year 2011.
