ANNOUNCMENT - EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE POSITION OF NON-CERTIFIED FIRE TRAINEE

The examination will be given at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center located at 1001 Avenida de las Americas , Ballroom A-C. Bring your driver's license or other photo ID and a copy of your DD214 (Member-4) if applicable.

For the Basic Fire Trainee Position:

Minimum Requirements
· Must be at least 19 years old
· Must not reach his/her thirty-sixth (36th) birthday before
receiving the oath of office
· Completed sixty (60) accredited transferable semester college hours
with a Grade of “C” or higher. Only 2 hours of Physical Education
will be accepted.
OR Two (2) years of full time (active duty) military
service with an “honorable discharge”

Salary
$27,474.20 per year (bi-weekly $1,056.70) during training (Firefighter Trainee)
$32,136.00 per year (bi-weekly $1,236.00) upon graduation (Probationary Firefighter)
$34,822.58 per year (bi-weekly $1,339.33) (1nd Year Firefighter)
$36,632.96 per year (bi-weekly $1,408.96) (2nd Year Firefighter)
$38,551.31 per year (bi-weekly $1,482.76) (3rd & 4th Year Firefighter)
Automatic step increases within rank

Specialty Premium Pay
$150 per month for Bilingual (Spanish/Mandarin)
$150 per month for Haz-Mat
$150 per month for Paramedic Preceptor
$164 per month for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
$164-$250 per month for Field/District Training Officer
$250 per month for Paramedic Restricted
$600 per month for Paramedic Unrestricted

Educational Incentive Pay
$60 per month Intermediate Firefighter
· 4 years of service – 6-semester hrs. of Fire Science or 96 hrs. NFA
· $120 per month for Advanced Firefighter
· 8 years of service – 6 additional hrs. of Fire Science or 96 hrs. NFA
$150 per month for Master Firefighter
12 years of service – 60 semester hours which must include at least 18 hrs.
of Fire Science OR an Associates Degree in Fire Science/Technology
