More than 3500 individually glazed tiles line a wall of Fire Station 27, 6515 Lyons Avenue. These tiles will catch your eye, featuring a beautiful mural of images capturing the spirit of the neighborhood.
Today, April 11, 2006,Council Member Adrian Garcia, Fire Chief Phil Boriskie, artist Suzanne Sellers, Mr. Robert Nelson (an cardiac arrest survivor featured in the mural) and other city representatives introduced the wall sized mural to the public during an official unveiling.
The mural is part of the City's Civic Art Program. This program was adopted as an ordinance in 1999 and mandates the inclusion of civic art in selected Capital Improvement Projects. A Community Development Block Grant provided more than 90 percent of the funding for station 27, which opened in May of 2004. |
