To report violations you can contact the Houston Fire Department's Fire Prevention Division that enforces the Fire Code at Day: 832-394-6900 or HPD's non-emergency number at night: 713-884-3131. You will not have to give your name or address and your identity can remain confidential.
There are inspectors and investigators from the Fire Marshal's office who patrol the City 10 days before (starting June 24) the Fourth of July and 10 days before New Year's Eve to remind people of the laws and to answer questions. If there are any fireworks found, they will be confiscated.
The fines are anywhere from $500 - $2000 for each individual firework. Each case is different and it would be up to a judge to determine the exact amount. W arnings are no longer used because of the seriousness of the firework laws.
What happens if a minor is caught with fireworks and their parent or guardian is unaware the minor had them? Is the penalty severe? The parent or guardian will receive the fine. They penalty is very severe because of the damage that fireworks can cause. They cannot only cause loss of property, but also severe injuries to the eyes, fingers and hands.
