Structured to work for its members, the AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession.
  • www.friendsofbarc.org - Friends of BARC is a nonprofit corporation that supports the humane care and treatment of animals at BARC. Volunteers staff off site adoption programs at several PetsMart stores at selected hours. Visit the web site for more information.

The show introduces animal friends for adoption that are in need of a loving forever home. Each week KPFT features several animals from BARC as well as animal friends from other animal control facilities and animal rescue groups.

  • www.aspca.org - The mission of the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”
  • www.akc.org - American Kennel Club - includes a section with photographs and descriptions of many breeds of dogs - may be helpful in identifying a lost or found dog.
  • www.petdata.com - PetData®, Inc., headquartered in Irving, Texas, provides animal licensing services for municipalities and animal welfare agencies throughout North America. The company, a member of the National Animal Control Association, administers animal licensing programs for animal control and humane organizations across the country.
  • www.petswelcome.com/milkbone/map.html - Petswelcome.com is a web site where you can search lodging facilities (motels, hotels, etc.) by city and state to see if the facility allows pets. Information includes whether the facility requires a fee for keeping the pet and the weight limit on the size of the pet.
  • www.petfriendlytravel.com/ - Petfriendlytravel.com is another web site that has information regarding pet friendly hotels and pet travel. Also has information on pet friendly beaches, parks and campgrounds.
  • www.ddfl.org/tips.htm - Dumb Friends League - despite the name, it offers a wealth of tips on dog behavior and cat behavior plus other small pets as well. Some of the topics include barking dogs, keeping your dog confined, why dogs bite, litter box problem prevention and discouraging roaming cats.
